Resident of The Square says…

I sent this email to RES

Good afternoon Chris and Carey

Following the exhibition by RES regarding the proposed wind farm at Mynydd Maen. I am writing to express my concern regarding the lack of information on the considerable impact the proposed positioning of the Windfarm turbines will potentially have on residents of The Square in Upper Cwmbran. I felt that the exhibition did not have any visual display of how the turbines would look from the angle of The Square which I felt was unacceptable given we are the nearest residents to the proposed turbines. More concerning was the fact that there was no display of an information regarding if any testing had been undertaken to identify the potential noise levels the huge turbines would generate. As The Square is positioned near the curve of the valley any noise is considerably amplified already. Therefore I am concerned that the noise generated by the proposed turbines will potentially have a huge impact on noise pollution for residents who live in The Square and surrounding area.

I would like to request the following to be considered:

  • An accurate photomontage of how the wind turbines would look from The Square.
  • Noise level tests to be undertaken from The Square to identify any potential background noise level measurements that could impact residents.
  • If consideration could be given to reposition the most visible turbines that are proposed to be positioned above and in directly in front of The Square.

I completely support and understand the urgent need for more renewable energy but also feel that it is vital that consideration must be given to the potential impact to those who live closest to the proposed windfarm and adjustments need to be made to the proposed plans accordingly.

I would be very grateful if you could kindly consider my concerns.

My main concerns are as follows

  1. Noise levels from the proposed turbines that could potentially have a huge impact on residents living in The Square and the surrounding area.

  2. The visual impact on the area due to the positioning of the huge turbines in particular the T9 turbine which is proposed to be positioned directly in front of The Square.

  3. Increased water draining from the mountain with the potential associate risk of flooding due to the removal of the huge areas of peat from the mountain that will be required to build the turbines.

  4. The potential for a huge impact on local wild life which has been highlighted as a problem by previous windfarm developments .
